CONFERENCE PROGRAM

The theme for the 2019 WAFES Conference is Facing the future together and includes three days of innovative workshops and presentations, new technology displays and practical demonstrations of equipment and tours of some of Western Australia’s best emergency services complexes.

A stellar line-up of keynote speakers have been announced for the conference, including Dr Gill Hicks AM, Sir Bob Parker, Jerry Grayson, Mick Colliss and James Maskey. The full program for the conference has just been released and an overview of activities and events throughout the weekend is available below.


Friday 6 September

Fire Truck Leaving Station

The Reds and Blues Tour

9.30am – 3pm (times subject to change)

This successful tour returns for a behind the scenes look at some of Western Australia’s state of the art emergency services complexes. Visit the new Vincent Fire Station, before travelling to Maylands Police Complex to see the Major Incident Control Centre, Mounted Police and Canine Section. This tour departs and returns to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Places are limited.


Tour of the Nerve Centre

The Nerve Centre Tour

8.00am – 4pm (times subject to change)

This popular tour returns for a behind the scenes look at some of DFES’ state of the art emergency services complexes. Visit the State Operation Centre and Communications Centre at Cockburn Central and then travel to Belmont to see the Simulation Centre before a final tour of the DFES Training Academy in Forrestfield. This tour departs and returns to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Places are limited.


Boat Tour

Water Rats and Salty Dogs Tour

8.45am – 3pm (times subject to change)

Join this tour of Water Police and VMRS Radio Operations at Cantonment Hill in Fremantle. This tour departs and returns to the Barrack Street jetty. Places are limited.


Helicopters ready to take flight

Top Guns Tour

8.30am – 4pm (times subject to change)

This tour includes a visit to Jandakot Airport to view RAC Rescue Helicopter and DFES Aviation. Next stop is the Perth International Airport to meet with Perth airport firefighters, AMSA Search Plane and Australian Federal Police. This tour departs and returns to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Places are limited.


Fireman and hose

Promoting your Brigade group or unit

8.30am – 4pm (times subject to change)

The DFES Media and Corporate Communications team will be running a professional development opportunity to help you build and grow your BGUs’ public presence through social and traditional media channels. Places are limited.


Perth City Skyline

Welcome Sundowner

6pm – 9pm

The Sundowner is a great opportunity to enjoy some refreshments and network with your peers from all emergency services across the State. The Sundowner will be held in the Exhibition Hall so you can also meet with exhibitors and view the appliances on display.


Fiona Stanley Hospital

You don’t put butter on a burn

8.30am – 12noon

This tour includes a visit to the Hyperbaric Chamber and the Burns Rehabilitation Facility at Fiona Stanley Hospital. You will also hear from a leading burns expert in the initial treatment of burns, and those who suffered exposure.

 

Saturday 7 September

WAFES Exhibition

Exhibition Hall

7am – 4.30pm

The Exhibition Hall will showcase the latest in fire and emergency services information and technologies. There will be a range of operational vehicles on display as well as some exciting practical demonstrations over the weekend. Exhibitors will include government, not for profit, commercial and industry specific exhibitors, such as equipment suppliers, research centres relevant to the emergency services sector, emergency service partner agencies, DFES services for volunteers, and DFES suppliers.

FES Awards Ceremony Room 2017

Awards gala dinner

6.30pm – 11.30pm

The 2019 WA Fire and Emergency Services Awards gala dinner will be held in the Bellevue Ballroom at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre with all services coming together to celebrate their successes. Whether it be on land, at sea or in the air, the outstanding achievements of individuals and teams in the emergency services will be recognised at this prestigious ceremony.
